Well the summer finally arrived and the much awaited first game of the season was upon us. With the teams sorted for the village battle, the 2 captains for the day, Greg McLeod for Butler & Michael Campbell for Bishop, met on the square for the all important toss. Greg won and decided to put Bishop into bat, much to the dissapointment of Alan Collier, who was hoping for an early arrival at the Plough!! Greg was hoping that the first wicket of the season might aid the bowlers early doors and make it hard for the batsman. Unfortunately, Bishop stirred by their captain to build a big innings, began in confident mood. With only the loss of James Buckley early (I still think the decision was payback for the runout at Colston!!), the Bishop batsmen put on a large score of 219-9. Main contributions from Suttle 47, Lee 43, Johnson 32 and King 62 not out. With tea out of the way the Bishop bowlers quickly set about trying to get through the Butler team as soon as possible. Along the way they met some sturdy resistance from Anwar (15) and young Harry Britton, who at the age of 10, faced a total of 33 balls and was not out at the end of the innings. Butler fell short however, being all out for 55. The game was played in fantastic spririt with everyone seeming to have a good day, even Andrew Black, who was bowled out by his own son, Max!!!
Well done everyone involved.....look forward to the next game...
